Northern Rivers Animal Services - NRAS is a self-funded, not-for-profit, registered Charity that commenced in October 2001 to provide foster care and the opportunity to re-home the abandoned, abused, lost and unwanted dogs and cats in the Northern Rivers region of NSW.

In late 2020 NRAS appointed both an Op Shop & Shelter Operations Manager to oversee these two areas of the organisation and its solid volunteer base, still under the governance of the Committee elected annually by its members.

Without an RSPCA between Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads, the welfare of companion animals on the Far North Coast of NSW is, in the most part, left to organisations such as NRAS.

NRAS' objectives are simple:

  • Raise the value of cats and dogs in society and improve the attitudes of humans towards animals through education

  • Work towards preventing the birth of unwanted kittens and puppies

  • Find safe and happy homes with responsible pet owners

  • Target zero euthanasia rates of all healthy & treatable cats & dogs
